CT inmates and correctional staff are testing positive for COVID-19 coronavirus. Despite all efforts to prevent the spread of the virus throughout Connecticut prisons, there are over 1200 confirmed cases between the staff members and inmates now.  As part of the bail bond business, we know many of them and wish them a quick recovery. All inmates that are admitted to the COVID units have tested positive for the COVID 19 Virus.
Once admitted to a COVID unit, you should expect the following procedures:

Correctional Officers and inmates fearing for their lives as coronavirus hits the state

In order to prevent the spread of the virus in the prisons in Connecticut, the Department of Corrections announced that all social visits to correctional facilities were suspended until further notice last March.

According to Commissioner Cook at the CT DOC, inmates who show symptoms will automatically be placed in isolation as a precaution. All inmates with symptoms are being tested. When inmates need further care because of the virus, they will be transferred to hospitals and have access to ventilators if necessary. To protect the healthy inmate population, the DOC has designated the Northern CC as the isolated area for all COVID -19 positive offenders.

Effective April 8, 2020, all offenders who are positive for the COVID-19 virus have been transferred to an isolation unit at the Northern Correctional Institution.

April arrived with more restrictions for CT prisons:

• A mandatory temp check for correctional personnel and anyone arriving at the lobby, bail bondsmen included.
• DOC staff testing positive restricted access to correctional centers even more.
• Only one person is allowed in the lobby when posting bail.
• As for new inmates, they must follow mandatory quarantine for 14 days as soon as they arrive.

While the sentenced prison population may have the highest risk of getting infected with COVID-19 due to exposure to large crowds and lack of essentials to maintain proper hygiene, anyone under arrest is at high risk of coronavirus. Prisoners sharing a cell at a local police department are not excluded from the possibility of getting the virus. Jail cells are small and often crowded and not sanitized.
