Mother’s Day Visitation at the Niantic Correctional Institution (CT Women’s prison)
This Mother’s Day, we know how important it is for families to stay connected. In 2023, the Connecticut Department of Corrections (CT DOC) joined efforts with the General Assembly and the Connecticut Children with Incarcerated Parents Initiative out of UConn to ensure children bond with their incarcerated mothers. Nearly half of the females incarcerated at the York Correctional Institution are mothers. The Niantic women-only prison is taking steps to help them maintain bonds with their kids by building a playground.
Below is helpful information for anyone planning to visit the Niantic – York CI women’s prison or needing assistance with bail.
Visitation Information 2026
- Visitation Request Link: https://visitingrequest.doc.ct.gov/
- Visits Allow Per Week: Eligible incarcerated individuals are allowed a total of two visits during the week (Monday-Friday).
- Weekend Visit: Additionally, eligible incarcerated individuals are allowed one visit (either an in-person visit or a video visit) on the weekend (Saturday-Sunday).
- Check‑In Requirements: Visitors must be on the approved, active visiting list.
- Special Mother’s Day Notes: Inmates at the Niantic York CI, with inmate numbers ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9, can receive visits on Sundays. Please always call the prison first, as information changes within the Connecticut Department of Corrections.
If you’re visiting a loved one, please arrive early to allow time for security check‑in.

- From Hartford, Enfield, Springfield:
- Take I-91 south to exit 22 south (route 9). Take exit 1 for I-95, bearing left to I-95 north. Then take exit 72 (Rocky Neck State park). At the light, take a left onto route 156 and continue one quarter of a mile. Follow route 156 for 1/2 mile. The driveway for York Correctional Institution is on the left.
- From Bridgeport and New Haven:
- Take I-95 north to exit 72 and then follow directions as stated above.
- From Danbury, Newtown and Waterbury:
- Take I-84 east to Hartford and then follow directions as stated above.
- From Eastern Connecticut Norwich, Danielson:
- Take I-395 south to I-95 south. Take exit 72 and then follow directions as stated above.
- From Rhode Island and North Stonington:
- Take I-95 South to exit 72 and then follow the directions as stated above.
