Last month, PBUS, the Professional Bail Agents of the United States, hosted their 2022 Winter Conference in Las Vegas. 3-D Bail Bonds’ father and son, Connecticut bail agents Dan and Jordan Toner attended, and the two enjoyed learning more about the bail industry, discovering new perspectives, and speaking with bail agents from all around the country. Taking their experience from the conference in Las Vegas this year, our agents are looking forward to enhancing 3-D Bail Bonds’ services here on the East Coast.

About PBUS

PBUS aims to represent bail agents nationwide as the “national voice of the bail agent”. Founded in 1981, the association allies with state organizations and bail agencies nationwide to advocate for legislation, networking, and education about the bail bond industry. This includes better support for bail bond agents’ certification, liability insurance, and the development and enhancement of trade ethics. The current president of PBUS is Topo Padilla of Greg Padilla Bail Bonds in California. Members of PBUS come together to discuss current bail changes, bail laws in their respective states, and the future of bail in the United States.

The PBUS 2022 Winter Conference was held from February 20th to 23rd at the Luxor Hotel and Casino on the world-famous Strip in Las Vegas. While bail agents from all over the country gathered at the conference, Jordan exclaimed “[it] makes me thankful to be in Connecticut where we have a (sometimes) easier underwriting process as well as less ground to cover”. One of the things that first-time attendee Jordan wrote back to us about his time at the event was the impact these experiences shared by other bail bondsmen and women had on him.

When asked what he most enjoyed about the convention and why, Jordan said “I most enjoyed meeting people located in various parts of the country and hearing about how bail works in different places (i.e., premium percentages, different state laws, and bail enforcement tactics and strategies)”.

Staying united under one voice is important among professional bail agents. Although agencies operate in different locations and are independent, at the end of the day, they come together as an industry. On this specific message, Jordan says that what he has learned at the conference has [made] him more prepared to fight for our industry…not only for his job, but for what we do in society. “While no industry is perfect, bail bonds is the only one holding defendants accountable for their court dates, no other form of pretrial release does”

At a bail event, unlike other industries, you find agents with many different backgrounds and expertises. Our Connecticut bail agents shared that they met wonderful people and listened to industry leaders speak, including Jeff Clayton, the Executive Director of the American Bail Coalition

Expanding on the message of unity that the conference enforced among the agents, Jordan says that “I got to meet some very important people at the top of our industry as well as small business owners and gain perspective from both sides… [They] all [gave] me different perspectives on how to succeed and what it takes to flourish and to perform to the highest level”.

Coming together in times of challenge and overcoming obstacles is what PBUS wants its members to take away from this gathering. Being united, the bail industry can be stronger as they continue to fight for what they do in society.

3-D Bail Bonds’ agents found this conference to be an enlightening experience. Connecticut Bail Agent, Jordan, closes his statements by saying that “The conference was a great opportunity to talk shop with people from all over the country and see what you can learn from each other. Consequently, reciprocating knowledge is an important asset to continue growing as professionals in bail”.
