As Democrats gradually recognized a shift in public sentiment, Republicans celebrated the reelection of former President Donald Trump. The outcome of the 2024 presidential election not only marked a significant victory for the Republican Party but also served as a clear message from the American electorate to those in power.
Emotions ran high on Wednesday morning as Connecticut learned the presidential election results. Donald Trump was the president-elect for the next term. Social media witnessed a wide division among voters with mixed feelings. See how Connecticut reacted to the news.
Voter fatigue stemming from issues like inflation, immigration, and perceived inaction by the current administration has prompted many Americans to seek change hoping for a better future. Vice President Kamala Harris faced considerable challenges, including vague policy proposals and controversial immigration strategies, which significantly contributed to her electoral defeat.
Latino voter support, once a cornerstone of Democratic margins, has sharply declined in 2024, significantly impacting Kamala Harris’s candidacy. While Hispanics boosted Democratic margins by nearly four points in 2016 and 2020, their influence dwindled to just 1% this cycle, underscoring a pivotal shift.
The Latino Vote in Presidential Election 2024
There are 36.2 million eligible Latino voters according to Hispanic Vote. 19 of the 26 counties along the U.S. border voted for Trump. 7 of the 10 most Hispanic counties voted for Trump. These counties are all in Texas, with 88 to 98 percent of their electorate being Hispanic. In 2020, all voted for Biden.
Even among the Latino community, immigration was a top concern. The “Open Borders” program was not the solution to an already broken immigration system. Regardless of Trump’s personality, Latinos believe he is a better fit for the economy.
2024 Election Point of View: Bondsman Drew
- Americans were not impressed with Kamala’s avoidance of the issues that most bothered the majority of our country.
- The hardcore negative attacks on Trump comparing him to Hitler and calling him a fascist were so over the top that it actually turned off the majority of the public. (And actually prompted 2 attempts on his life!)
- People generally don’t like being told what to do or think. The barrage of surrogates like Obama, Oprah, Dinero, Roberts, Clooney, and other Hollywood elites telling people how they “have to vote” was unrelenting.
- The insults of those who support Trump and the Republican party, “Deplorable, Garbage, Uneducated, Misogynistic, Racists and Weak Unintelligent Women” were a continuous reminder of the hatred from the other side.
- The Media’s unapologetic blatant bias.
As the evening wore on, with the races being called state by state for the Presidency, Senate and the House and as the outcome was becoming obviously in Trump and Republican favor, many members of the media were going through stages of grief.
Presidential Election point of view: Bail Enforcement Agent
When asked for thoughts about the election, Brent shares, “I feel that neither party was working for what is best for the citizens of this country. Both sides have strong positions and, in my opinion, a little extreme.
Prior to the election, I felt strongly about supporting former President Trump as I truly believe he is what our country currently needs. The open border policy which allowed immigrants into the country without proper background checks was and is alarming.
As a fugitive recovery agent, I can attest to the constant danger when looking for fugitives who are citizens of the country. Imagine looking for foreign absconders without any information. Law Enforcement Agents put their lives on the line every day as they simply don’t know if these people are dangerous or have access to firearms. The latest ICE report 2023 showed that over 6.2 million noncitizens are in removal proceedings but are not detained.
The economy has faced significant challenges over the past three years. Prices have surged dramatically, and mortgage interest rates remain above 7%. Additionally, we’ve found ourselves once again reliant on foreign countries for energy.
I’m hopeful that under President-elect Trump, the livelihood of Americans will change based on hard work and opportunities.
Uncalled Congressional Races as of November 8
At the closing of this article, Republicans won the US Senate majority, a victory for the party that has been locked out of the majority in the chamber since 2021. As for the House, results are still being reported in races across the country. The House Republicans are defending a narrow majority.
